Barbara Ann Jones

I like to paint both plein air and in the studio.  My favorite subjects include landscape, still life and figurative art.  I have painted most of my adult life and to me the creative process is a passion.  It is truly a gift to view the world as an artist.  When outdoors, I am awed by God's beautiful ever changing canvas and am humbled by the beauty we are so blessed to see and experience from the largest landscape down to the tiniest leaf on a plant.

Figurative work is amazing to me because I can witness the creation of a person as they begin to emerge on the canvas.  The challenge is not so much to creat a physical likeness but a spiritual likeness of a person.

Working with dramatic light striking my subject matter helps to create the drama neccessary for an interesting painting.  Except for plein air work, I like to do preliminary sketches and plan my painting before I begin to paint.  Composition and a good drawing make the painting process much easier.
